Stjarna - Christmas Design of the Year 2026 Each year, House of Dalsgaard creates a special Christmas design, crafted and offered exclusively during that year. An annual tradition where the forms of nature, Danish craftsmanship, and the spirit of Christmas come together in a work of art that will never be repeated. The first creation in this tradition is Stjarna, Old Norse for star. Stjarna is an interpretation of the classic Christmas star. From its centre, five hand-forged branches extend outwards, adorned with smaller twigs and individually shaped leaves. Every detail is crafted by hand, and the dark, richly textured surface of the iron reflects the character of traditional blacksmithing. The organic forms give the star an appearance that is both raw and elegant. Suspended in a window or displayed on a wall, it creates a beautiful interplay of light, shadow, and the distinctive texture of the iron. Stjarna is available to order exclusively in 2026. When the year comes to an end, the design will be retired, making way for a new and unique Christmas design the following year. A work of art created to become part of a family's Christmas traditions and perhaps one day be passed down to the next generation.

Craftsmanship

Stjarna is handcrafted from steel, using round steel bars of varying dimensions that are worked and assembled to create its branching structure. Each branch is individually shaped and joined, giving it a natural, organic appearance with subtle variations in thickness, direction, and texture. The leaves are shaped using a hammer. During this process, their distinctive veins, textures, and irregular surfaces are formed. Each leaf is welded onto a twig, which is then incorporated into the larger branch structure. The joints and worked surfaces are an integral part of the piece's character. The dark finish of the iron highlights the textures and individual details created during the forging process. As every component is shaped and assembled by hand, variations will occur between individual pieces. The size, shape, and placement of the leaves, as well as the arrangement of the branches, may differ, while the overall five-pointed design remains consistent. Each Stjarna is therefore an individual work of blacksmith craftsmanship, created from the same design but with its own unique character.
