Our Story
An idea that was allowed to grow over decades.
01
It Began with a Gift
An idea that was allowed to grow over decades.
In 1980, Jens Dalsgaard created a piece featuring branches and leaves as a gift for his mother. It marked the beginning of an artistic language that would continue to evolve through decades of working with iron.
Inspired by the organic forms of nature, Jens created works that brought together the raw material and something living and recognisable. Over the years, more enquiries followed, bringing new experience and an increasingly varied body of work.
Even then, the idea of building something greater around the craft began to take shape. But although the vision was there, many years would pass before the time was right.
02 · The Craft
When Iron Finds Its Own Expression
Every piece has a character of its own.
For Jens, the art of blacksmithing is not about producing a series of identical objects. Dimensions and function are planned, but individual expression is an essential part of the work. When everything is made exactly alike, something of what makes the craft interesting is lost.
A naturalistic appearance is central to his work. When people look at the pieces, Jens wants them to recognise something from nature, even though it has been created from iron.
And while both the process and the finished result matter deeply, it is the joy of the person receiving the piece that gives the work its special meaning.
03 · The Family
A Family That Has Always Created Together
From shared projects to a shared life's work.
Over the years, the Dalsgaard family has been accustomed to creating things together. Festivals, events and other shared projects have long been a natural part of family life.
Jens's sons had encouraged him for years to take his blacksmithing further. But it was only after he retired that the opportunity arose to bring the idea to life.
With House of Dalsgaard, the family now has a shared endeavour that brings together their different experiences and skills. Some contribute to blacksmithing and woodworking, while others work with installation, administration and the development of the company's digital solutions.
For Jens, however, it is about more than the work itself. It is also about spending meaningful time together as a family and creating something they can share for many years to come.

A Craft to Carry Forward
The past as our foundation. The future as a shared ambition.
House of Dalsgaard is not intended to be the final chapter of Jens's life, but the beginning of something the family can carry forward.
The ambition is to allow the craft to evolve through new ideas, individual wishes and the demand that has helped shape the works over the years.
Jens hopes that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to enjoy one of his works in their homes. At the same time, he wishes to see the craft live on through the family.
What began with a gift in 1980 has become a shared purpose across generations of the Dalsgaard family, while creating works that future generations of other families may also enjoy.
From Generation to Generation.
