Hlíf
Protection · Trivets
Hlíf brings together the practical purpose of a trivet and the organic forms of nature. Individually hand-forged in iron, its branches and leaves protect the table while creating a sculptural expression.
Grein by Jens Dalsgaard
Design language
Protection for what matters.
Hlíf takes its name from the Old Norse word for protection. It reflects a simple idea: that an everyday object can also be something worth leaving on display.
Branch-inspired forms extend across the table, with leaves and smaller offshoots recalling fragments of nature. Placed beneath serving dishes, pots or bowls, they bring a decorative element to the table setting.
Where conventional trivets are often put away after use, Hlíf is designed to remain part of the table's visual character. Its organic forms become small sculptures in their own right, adding character even after the meal has ended.
Hlíf brings together function and aesthetics, carrying the nature-inspired artistic language of Grein into the shared moments of everyday life.
Craftsmanship
Hlíf features branch-inspired elements in hand-forged iron, where leaves, branching forms and softly rounded details create an expression drawn from nature.
The individual leaves carry visible textures that add depth to the surface and emphasise the contrast between the strength of iron and the delicacy of its forms.
Each element follows its own organic path, and the hand-forging process allows for natural variations in detail and expression.
